This is unbelievable. But apparently true.
No, the last six years have been "unbelievable." Why should anybody be suprised with this new low in cynical Republican "politics?" The AP is reporting tonight that Bush wants to "interrupt" the bullshit 9/11 show with a "major speech" to heap even more bullshit on the reeking pile of lies.
Could we be watching the "end of history?" I mean the kind of stuff we USED to call "history" back in "history" class? The kind that was based on, uh, history? (You know, like, "just the facts" kind of history.) Will it all be political mythology, or pure shameless propaganda, for half the people in this country from now on??? Is this a watershed event?
I was hoping to just ignore the stupid 9/11 show. But now there's a real reason to fight it! This confluence of partisan/Republican revisionist "history," with a "major speech" from the nation's President (that will undoubtedly include even MORE imaginary history from the mind of Karl Rove, and spoken by the teleprompted lips of George W. Bush) is indeed a "perfect storm" of propaganda, that I'm not sure this country has ever witnessed.
It is true mastery of all the dominant media for political purposes at one time.
And ironically, I'm afraid, if this thing happens, our jaw dropped outrage will largely count as mere "buzz" for the whole event.
If this evening of "entertainment/politics/history" succeeds in changing the minds of five percent of the people who watch it, it could have profound effects on the election, AND the direction of popular American history. (Not the kind in researched scholarly works, but the kind that lives in the minds of John Q. Moron. Like the "Iraq had something to do with 9/11" does with 43 percent of us. Coincidentally about the percentage of people who believe in this President.)
This raises the stakes my friends. Quite a bit.
We'll see what happens.
