The Missoula Art Museum (MAM) in Missoula, Montana had a special exhibition, Just Between Us, featuring the art of Mimi Jung.
According to MAM:
“Mimi Jung stretches the traditional art of weaving from tapestry and large sculptural woven works to experimental materials and forms, including cast metal. Jung works with intricate and new techniques to explore her personal experience and the interplay of external relationships. Born in Korea and now based in Montana, Jung earned a BFA at the Cooper Union and attended HGK Basel and Städelschule for postgraduate studies. She has mounted exhibitions throughout the U.S. and internationally.”
According to MAM:
“The evocative exhibition title, Just Between Us, invites her audience in, as if sharing a secret, but it is also a reference to the weaving process.”
According to MAM:
“With unexpected and unconventional materials like paper and foam as wefts, a variety of non-traditional strings used as warps, and woven pieces cast in metal, Jung’s work has a strong materiality while retaining conceptual underpinnings.”
